Intel’s Atom has been in the market for a short time and has been unchallenged by similar procies from rival AMD. This may soon end though as AMD announced that it will reveal more details of a product that will compete with the Atom by November.
It looks like this procie will be the code-named Bobcat, which has been talked about for almost a year. If that’s the case then the new processor will come out in 1Ghz speed and will have a 128kb L1 cache, 256kb of L2 cache and an 800mhz HyperTransport link as well as support for 400Mhz DDR 2 RAM. Consumption is just a mere 8 watts.
Details on pricing are not yet available but knowing the price differences between the two companies, I’ll wager that AMD’s version will be priced lower than Intel’s.
