In this day and age – a time of marketing, advertising, and hype, it is rather surprising that computer manufacturer Asus has been going about its business quietly. Not that Asus has been totally mum – they do have to make some sort of announcement to make their new offering known, after all. The recent release of their latest gaming laptop has not been a noisy one, though.
Dubbed the Asus G74, the gaming laptop packs some punch while not making you want to tear your eyeballs out. While there is a lot of choices when it comes to gaming laptops, it seems that many of them are geared towards those who want it to be known what the device is for. If you are the more subdued kind of gamer – if there is such a thing – and you want a laptop that is actually low key (visually speaking), then the Asus G74 might be the one you are looking for.
Get what I mean by low key? Here are other angles.
Not bad looking at all, although it isn’t the slimmest one can find. Then again, why would a serious gaming machine need to be thin?
Looks aside, this machine is something to seriously consider if you are in the market for a new gaming rig. The screen is 17.3 inches – full HD and optional 3D. The processor? Intel Core i7 2630QM quad-core “Sandy Bridge”. As for the graphics card – is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M video card with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM good enough for you? Additionally, there are four SODIMM slots for up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM memory, two hard drive bays, as well as THX TruStudio audio with stereo speakers and subwoofer. Are you already thinking how awesome it would be to play your favorite game on this baby?
There are two models – G74SX-A1 and G74SX-3DE. The first one comes with a Blu-ray Combo drive, 12GB RAM, dual 750GB hard drives (7200 rpm), and an 8-cell 5200mAh battery. The second model comes with a 120Hz 3D screen and an Nvidia Vision 3D glasses kit, as well as a Blu-ray burner. It has the same specs for the RAM, hard drive, and battery.
The A1 is selling for $1,745.00, while the 3DE is selling for $1,979. The laptops are currently available on a pre-order basis and are due to be shipped by the 28th of this month.
