So I’m off to buy a new Apple Macbook Pro tomorrow. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be for me. I’m going to accompany a good friend of mine and be her “knight in digital armor” as I do all of the necessary shopping, haggling (for freebies) and give her my opinions as to which laptop to get. We’ve already gone window shopping today and we’ve already narrowed down our choices.
I love being the “go to” guy for my girl friends when it comes to all matters technical. I love shopping around for gadgets so these trips are really not a chore for me but an opportunity to see what’s available at stores and test them on my own. I also feel much more “masculine”. I guess I have to say this is like the “handyman” syndrome where guys feel more butch when women rely on them to fix broken light bulbs or busted drawers.
There is some bitter to the sweet though. Take for example the trip tomorrow. My friend is going to get the top of the line Macbook Pro, which is a unit that is WAAAAY over my budget. Technological envy rears its ugly head sometimes when you go to a store where someone else buys the laptop you love.
