It kind of looks like a Macbook Air, but it’s just your typical netbook. Well, except for the 12-inch screen. Meet the iiView A2. It’s running on a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display. Oh surprise, it has 6 cell battery and it rocks Windows 7 RC1.
Now, would you be caught carrying a Macbook Air lookalike, or would you use a different netbook when travelling?

If you guys haven’t heard, Google is developing its own operating system, dubbed Chrome OS. And you know what? I’m pretty excited for this.
Chrome OS will be running Linux, and maybe, just maybe, this is what the Linux community needs to break out in the mainstream. Heck, Linux has been around since forever, and guess what: they’ve only hit 1% usage recently.
Chrome OS, in Google’s own words:
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
Wired has written about Chrome OS, and has stated 5 things to be excited about it: it’ll be free, it will be fast, since it’s being made for netbooks there should be no compatibility issues, it should be portable, and the new applications Google must be cooking up are exciting. And remember, if Google markets Chrome OS aggressively, we could see a surge of Linux users.
Heck, if Chrome OS will be cloud-centric, this is the perfect OS for travelling.

Nokia is well-known for its mobile devices, having been in the market for over 25 years, but now the Finnish company has decided to compete in the notebook market with the introduction of its Booklet 3G.
Let’s cut to its list of features. First off, it uses the popular Intel Atom mobile processor, ensuring a decent amount of both power and battery life — up to 12 hours is the claim though you can bet that’s with most things switched off.
Connectivity is good, as you’d expect, with Wi-Fi, 3G/HSPA and A-GPS unit built-in, and there’s also an HDMI output for connecting up to high definition displays.

Dell can’t seem to make up its mind. The computer manufacturing giant, in a recent blog post, announced that it will stop producing its 12 inch netbooks. But it also announced that the Mini 9 (which has a 10 inch display) has been revived — after it was retired last June.
According to the same blog post, Dell’s move can be seen as a realization that in the netbook market the 10 inch display is where the money is.
Dell is selling the Mini 9 for $299 while the Mini 12 is sold at the Dell factory outlets for about $569.

Expect to see Windows 7 on netbooks when it is released.
Microsoft claimed that it whatever netbook PC hardware “evolves” Windows 7 will work perfectly with it. The company reported that it is testing Windows 7 on various netbook PCs since before the upcoming OS was “feature complete”.Microsoft’s plan is to ensure that small notebook PCs will run perfectly with any edition of Windows 7.
This is a good move on Microsoft’s part. It is a firm acknowledgement that netbooks is probably one of the strongest laptop market segment today. With the world economy slowing down, it’s pretty much sure that netbooks will become a more attractive purchase option for people who want to upgrade or add a new laptop for their homes or office. Ensuring that Windows 7 will work perfectly with these units will definitely help in selling the new OS when it finally arrives. The upside here is that Windows 7 will probably be not as bloated if it really wants to target netbooks.
