According to technology news reports, Cyberspace Running Out Of Room:

The growing popularity of smartphones, IPTV and other gadgets connecting to the Internet is eating up real estate on the net, and soon techies can expect cyberspace to run out of room, according to a Frost & Sullivan analyst briefing today.

Experts say today’s Internet protocol version 4 (IPv6) also limits services of multimedia content and data communication, including mobile IP, P2P and video calls. With new mobile IPv6, telecommunication providers can easily roll out custom services from movies to ring tones to television.

This is very interesting indeed. It’s like what happened with various area codes for the telephone system across the Nation. We ran out of numbers, so they made up new area codes.

According to Research firm IDC Corporation by the year 2012 about 17 billion devices will connect to the Internet. That’s a lot of tech toys.

Microsoft Patches Coming Next Week

Microsoft WindowsMicrosoft says on their Security Bulletin Advance Notification site Windows users should expect to see three security bulletins on Tuesday May 9. At least two of the three patches will include fixes for flaws Microsoft dubs “critical.”

Microsoft is planning to release the following updates:

  • One Microsoft Security Bulletin affecting Microsoft Exchange. The highest Maximum Severity rating for this is Critical. These updates may require a restart. These updates will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.
  • Note that this update will include the functionality change discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 912918. Administrators are urged to review this Knowledge Base article prior to release and take steps appropriate for their environment.
  • Two Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Windows. The highest Maximum Severity rating for these is Critical. These updates may require a restart. These updates will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and the Enterprise Scanning Tool.

As always, Microsoft will shoot for a 10 am PDT roll-out of the fixes. Your mileage may very.

Last month, Microsoft released 5 patches that fixed 14 flaws and later in April, Microsoft was forced to re-release one of the updates because of conflicts with various Hewlett-Packard programs and older NVIDIA graphics card drivers.

Google and Dell Partnership

GoogleGoogle announced earlier today that Dell Inc. has agreed to ship 10’s of millions of computers with Google software installed.

This news is really going to upset Microsoft because now another powerful company (Google) is getting into the same market share that’s been dominated by Microsoft for over a decade. What market share do you ask? The desktop of course.

This partnership deal is really going to widen the usage of Google products and provide another boost to its already rapidly growing profits. I’m sure it will help Dell as well.

Basically the three year deal has Dell pre-installing Google’s search application for searching a computer hard drive and emails. It also has a Web browser toolbar linking to Google’s online search and other services like Gmail and Google News.

The best part about this deal for Google is Dell would set the homepage of the computer’s browser to a co-branded Dell/Google Web site and would make Google the default search application.

Google has emerged as a serious threat during the past two years and as we all know, there’s been a very heated competition between Google and Microsoft. Who do you think is going to win? My money is on Google.

House rejects Net neutrality rules

By a 269-152 vote that fell largely along party lines, the House Republican leadership mustered enough votes to reject a Democrat-backed amendment that would have enshrined stiff Net neutrality regulations into federal law and prevented broadband providers from treating some Internet sites differently from others.

The U.S. House of Representatives definitively rejected the concept of Net neutrality on Thursday, dealing a bitter blow to Internet companies like Amazon.com, eBay and Google that had engaged in a last-minute lobbying campaign to support it.

Of the 421 House members who participated in the vote that took place around 6:30 pm PT, the vast majority of Net neutrality supporters were Democrats. Republicans represented most of the opposition.

This is unbelievable! I’m at a loss for words. What is wrong with the United States Government? Canada is starting to look really good these days. I hear the tech industry is booming in Canada.

Net Neutrality Amendment Dies, Supporters Continue Battle

A congressional committee drew rapid fire Wednesday after killing an amendment to preserve network neutrality.

A coalition that drew together the Gun Owners of America, the Democratic-leaning organization MoveOn, and several of the country’s top technology CEOs, blasted the committee with a news statement announcing, “House Ignores Public, Sells Out the Internet.”
