Thanks to a suggestion from my friend Gregg, I just finished watching Hacking Democracy:
This cautionary documentary exposes the vulnerability of computers – which count approximately 80% of America’s votes in county, state and federal elections – suggesting that if our votes aren’t safe, then our democracy isn’t safe either.
As with most people who have watched this 1 hour 22 minute documentary which Premiered Thursday, November 2, 2006 on HBO, I was completely shocked and sick to my stomach. I’m sure this will get pulled from TV if it hasn’t already.
It was put together by a group called Black Box Voting the official consumer protection group for elections based out of Renton, Washington.
Thanks to BitTorrent, I’ve got the whole 697 MB file which is just the right size for a CD available for download on my site.
Because of the file size and possible bandwidth issues, I don’t want to make my link public, so if you can’t find Hacking Democracy via BitTorrent, let me know and I’ll provide you my download link.
I recommend downloading uTorrent, which is both free and not a resource hog for all your BitTorrent download needs.
The video was encoded with DivX, which is why it can still be high quality and as small as it is (normally, MPEG-2 videos of this length are in excess of 4 GB.
To view DivX content, you need to install the DivX codex, which can be downloaded for free here.
