Do you take precautions when you are on vacation to make sure that you aren’t harming the area you are visiting? That can be doing things as simple as making sure your own trash ends up in the garbage and not on the ground, or as diversified as cleaning up after someone else’s mess, which can make you feel good about your fun vacation.
There are more things than garbage that can mess up the environment though. You want to clean up after pets, and maybe even watch what you are putting into the air from your way of transportation to the fact that you might be a smoker.
Find Less Toxic Ways To Travel
Be a more sustainable visitor when you go on vacations and follow in the footsteps of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation who does what they can to help sustain Las Vegas, where they are located. They work with people to help protect the area, and the air you breath.
When it comes to travels, whether you are going to Las Vegas or Australia, look into less toxic ways of traveling. Check with airlines to find out which ones are working on being more green, rent a flex fuel car, or at least rent bikes to get around once you reach your vacation destination.
Traveling by plane, car, and boat has it’s own negative effects on the environment, but they are basically the only ways to get a far distance. However, once you get where you are going you can walk, bike, or even travel by horse, and be better on the environment.
Clean Up After Yourself
Always clean up after yourself when you go on vacation. Put your trash in proper trash receptacles. If you are camping out and using the outdoors as a bathroom, make sure you are properly disposing of that as well, or at least burying it well. You don’t want to ruin things for the next people that camp in that spot.
If you are a smoker, make sure that you smoke only in designated areas and that you properly dispose of your used cigarettes. You are better off just not smoking. It’s better for you and the environment, saves you money, and creates less trash.
If you camp out and have a bonfire, make sure you are using locally sourced wood so you aren’t spreading bugs and parasites. Also, make sure that you douse your fire with water when you are done to prevent forest fires. Clean up any trash soot left over after you’ve put your fire out as well.
Try A Volunteer Vacation
If you really want to get into the idea of being more environmentally conscious, take a volunteer vacation where you can help make the earth a better place. Maybe you can help a crew clean up trash on the roadside, or volunteer at a farm and help plant or harvest fruits or vegetables. There are many things you can do to give back to the earth that has given you a sustainable life.
Heck, you may want to take a staycation and volunteer some time at your local recycling facility or community garden. Anything that will do something good for the earth, people, and the environment makes a great plan for an eco-friendly vacation.
You could also make a plan to just stay home. Plant your own garden, plant a few trees, and clean up any trash that has blown into your yard. Your garden will help nourish the soil in your yard, will offer you a good deal on food, cutting down on some toxic trips in your car to the store, and is a fun thing to spend time doing. Planting trees helps with oxygen creation and is just giving back to nature in general.
Vacationing more responsibly when it comes to the environment is really an easy thing to do if you just respect nature and take care to put out less trash and toxins. It will not only do the earth good, but it will help you feel better about yourself. Plus, the air you’re breathing will be that much cleaner for your efforts! Why not make your vacation about the environment, it will still be fun and you still get away from the hustle and bustle of life.
