Intel to enter ultraportable market with Classmate

Competition in the subportables sector is fast heating up especially with the announcement that Intel is going into the arena with its own sub $300 laptops.

This new product was actually first developed for poor children in other countries but will now be made available in both the US and European markets. This move is definitely going to push down the prices of laptops and computers.

The second generation Classmate PC has still not yet been shown to the media but the price point being talked about is between 250 to 350 dollars. Although the said laptops had been initially designed for children, the machines can still bring the necessary push in the red hot low cost computing sector and this could mean development will accelerate at a point when these affordable machines will become more powerful.

The new Classmate iterations is expected to be available in the market by Christmas. I can’t wait to see what these new ultraportables will look like. And with the new ASUS EEE variant coming in a couple of months, I am really getting the itch to upgrade again this year.
