Bloomberg issues obit for Jobs… by mistake

Bloomberg is one of the most respected financial media organizations in the world so it was quite a surprise to see a major mistake coming from the organization.

A few days ago, Bloomberg broke the news of Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ death and even posted a long, moving obituary. The problem is that Jobs, though facing some health issues, has not yet passed away.

Bloomberg has already issued a retraction and an apology, that frankly, I think was quite half baked. I can’t even believe they already wrote an obit for a man who’s still have a lot of fight in him.

Toshiba releases latest gaming laptop

Toshiba has released a new laptop that is aimed squarely at gamers.

The Qosmio X305-Q708 gaming laptop is Toshiba’s latest product from its gaming line. It features a 17-inch widescreen Trubrite LCD and is powered by an Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad-core processor as well as Dual GPU Nvidia graphics chip. If I’m not mistaken this is one of the first laptops to sport a graphics chip in an SLI configuration and coupled with a quad-core processor. The graphics chip is a GeForce 9800M GTS.

To make it a hardier portable gaming machine, the new Qosmio has a solid state hard drive. The 128gb primary drive has a NAND flash memory that can deliver faster access times and transfer rates.

Other features of the Qosmio include: 4GB DDR3 RAM, full-sized keyboard, four Harman Kardon stereo speakers with built-in subwoofer, HDMI and DisplayPort connector, 1.3 megapixel webcam, Wireless USB and USB Sleep-and-charge.

At $4,199.99, this is not for everyone. But for those who can afford it, they will have the meanest laptop on the block.

HP releases new multi-touch tablet PC

When Hewlett-Packard unveiled its TouchSmart “kitchen” PC that is specifically designed for the family, it gave consumers a glimpse at the real-world uses of a touchscreen PC.

The company is now building on that success by releasing the TouchSmart TX2, its first multi-touch tablet for Windows.

Just like the other products in the TouchSmart line, the TX2 is built around multimedia. The touch functionality is in full use, although it is quite limited when it comes to other applications.

The TX2, though billed as a multi-touch PC, also stretches that claim a bit as the gestures that you can use are still limited to two fingers.

The TX2 has the following specs: a 12-inch widescreen, a stylus, dual-layer DVD burner, three USB ports, multi-card reader, 250GB 5400-rpm hard drive, a 2.2-GHz AMD Turion X2 ZM-82 processor, and 4GB of memory.

The price is pegged at $1,149.

ASUS to put 3.75G tech to new products

ASUS is intent on maintaining its league-leading position in the netbook sector by adding more features to its Eee line of products.

ASUS has announced that it will be adding HSUPA 3.75G technology to the Eee line beginning October. The first product that will get the new tech is the Eee PC 901. Although no price was announced for this new iteration, the 901 will be available in both black and white. There were also no announcements whether the 901 will be partnered with any wireless supplier.

The 901’s specifications include an 8.9 inch display, Intel Atom processor, 1gb of memory, 802.11/b/g/n, bluetooth and Windows XP Home. The 901 will have a 16Gb SSD as well as 20gb of free online storage.

Google opens voice, video chat for Gmail

Good news for laptop warriors who need a more immersive communication experience. Google has integrated voice and video for Gmail Chat that will allow you to see or hear a friend when you chat.

All users need to do is to download and install a plug-in in order to have access to webcam for video chatting. The good thing here is that users can now seamlessly switch from email to chat whenever they need to. This will be a great boost in productivity.

Accessing the video or voice chat is simple. All one has to do is to click on the “video & more” link in the chat window, click “start video chat” or “start voice chat.”

This feature is availablce on Windows XP or higher as well as on Mac OS X v10.4.
