ASUS reveals EEE tablet PCs

The Consumer Electronics Show 2009 currently being held in Las Vegas is proving to be an exciting one for laptop lovers.

ASUS unveiled its two EEE PC tablets at the show recently. The T91 and the T101H are 8.9 – and 10 – inch screens that posses the Atom processor, a direct spec link the the EEE netbooks that are probably the most popular laptops in the market today. The great innovation for this line is the tablet functionality allowing a user to swivel the screen flush and fold it flush to the keyboard.

I am quite excited about the T101H not only because of the size but also because of the good looking chiclet keyboard. No price has been given yet for these new EEE stars but I’ll definitely be getting this when it gets released.

ASUS to put 3.75G tech to new products

ASUS is intent on maintaining its league-leading position in the netbook sector by adding more features to its Eee line of products.

ASUS has announced that it will be adding HSUPA 3.75G technology to the Eee line beginning October. The first product that will get the new tech is the Eee PC 901. Although no price was announced for this new iteration, the 901 will be available in both black and white. There were also no announcements whether the 901 will be partnered with any wireless supplier.

The 901’s specifications include an 8.9 inch display, Intel Atom processor, 1gb of memory, 802.11/b/g/n, bluetooth and Windows XP Home. The 901 will have a 16Gb SSD as well as 20gb of free online storage.

next EEE model to offer 3G

ASUS is really milking the mega popular EEE line with more and more models coming down the pipeline.

The company has announced ANOTHER model of its EEE mini laptops that will come out later this year. This new model will come with built-in 3G as a way of competing with companies that are offering the feature in their ultraportables.

The new EEE model could be avaiable as early as September in Europe.

The proposed EEE model will basically have the same features as its rivals, that is, internal 3G modules for both HSDPA and HSUPA. There is speculation that these models may be made available with bundled 3G contracts from a service provider.

A thought about the EEE

I whipped out my ASUS EEE at a meeting this week for a new project I’m working on. As expected two of my teammates got intrigued by the diminutive size of the machine and got more surprised when I told them how much it costs. A few days later, at another meeting those two approached me to say that they are going to buy an EEE in a couple of weeks. I told them it’s a good investment but they might want to hold off for a few more weeks because the 900 series is already available. The two said that they’ll think about it.

My last conversation with them actually left me wondering, too. With the 900 series available, the lure of the bigger capacity and screen size is really something that will make you take pause. But the attendant price increase is the one niggle that is not really sitting well with me. With the new price point for the 900, you can get a full featured budget laptop for the same price. ASUS may have forgotten that the price point is one of the biggest selling factors for getting an EEE. By eliminating that advantage, the EEE is shown for what it really is, a low featured laptop.

I hope that ASUS gets its act together especially when they announce the release of the Intel Atom EEEs.

Spare EEE batteries

I’ve been bringing along my ASUS EEE in all of my meetings. It’s been a constant companion to the point that I never leave home without it. Even when I go out for errands, I never forget to bring it with me in the hope that during a lull in my day I can catch up on some work or just surf at leisure.

One limitation of the EEE is the battery power. I can only squeeze up to two and half hours of power on the stock battery. This is not enough especially for a power user like me. It’s a good thing that ASUS has started selling spare batteries at relatively affordable prices. I love the fact that the company has released heavy duty batteries that give up to four and half hours of power. That’s enough juice for me to last the whole day.

I’ve already placed my online order for a battery, between this new one and my stock battery, I’m pretty much set.
