Traveling is a time designated for a hakuna matata sort of mentality. Your life is filled with day to day pressures that weigh on your mind, body, and finances. When you work hard enough to put aside enough money and time to travel, you want to let everything fall to the wayside and do all of the activities you want. This includes feasting on the delicacies of life, reclining on the beach, and enjoying margaritas and mimosas galore.
When you go on a trip it is easy to forget the fact that you’re not necessarily in a safe environment where you can completely let loose. Traveling presents dangers that you have to be aware of. The most threatening of which are probably things you wouldn’t even think. Here are the top dangers of traveling:
Road Related
Different countries have different traffic laws. When you visit different places it’s going to be strange to you to drive on the opposite side of the road than what you’re used to. Other countries also are often less strict at enforcing traffic laws. This means that you being on the road in any measure is a very real danger. Distracted driving is a reality in all countries. Even greater in countries where there is so much going on. Pay attention when you’re on and around the roads to keep yourself safe while traveling.
Bite Related
If you’re vacationing to a tropical location where you know there are a lot of critters present, you might think about the dangers of bites to you and your family. If you’re traveling some place close to home, you might not think about this as much. The reality of the matter is that bites of multiple kinds are a danger most everywhere.
Look into the kinds of bugs and animals that are present in the area you’re visiting. Rabies are easy to contract, especially for children, and other sicknesses due to mosquitos are highly plausible. Get vaccines and be aware.
Self Related
In a traveling setting, the biggest danger might just be you. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but if you don’t handle yourself with responsibility and care, the reason you will be in danger is because you didn’t take the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe from environmentally present dangers.
When you travel, do your research, keep your eyes and ears open, and never allow yourself to get intoxicated in a public and foreign place without proper measures to ensure your own safety. Travel in groups, talk to the locals about good places to be, and care. It’s your life at risk. That would be a shame to lose it.
