Going home for the holidays can be a big headache. As soon as Thanksgiving rolls around, the season of visiting relatives begins. You have to buy gifts, answer invasive questions about your personal life, and talk to your weird, racist uncle. Depending on how well you get along with your family, you might want to avoid going home for the holidays altogether.
Instead of the stress and hassle of going home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, here are three fun vacations you can take with your kids or just your significant other. You’re guaranteed to relax, and when your coworkers are complaining about all the fruitcake they had to eat, you’ll be telling them about how much fun you had shredding up the slopes!
Escape The Cold
What better way to relax than get away from the snow and slush with a delightful tropical vacation? Head out to warmer coasts and enjoy blue skies, clear water, and white sand.
A tropical vacation is great for kids because there is plenty to do at the beach, and also great for adults who want nothing more than to lie back on a towel and sip a margarita in the sun.
With a little planning you can swim with dolphins or see some tropical fish. You’ll come back to work and everyone will be asking how you got so tan!
Hit The Slopes
Embrace the cold weather and get outdoors! Zip up your coat and strap on your skis for a great weekend at a ski lodge.
Although going to the mountain just for the day is always an option, making a weekend of it turns this fun activity into a full-on vacation. A ski lodge guarantees you will always have somewhere to wrap yourself in a blanket and sip some hot chocolate after a hard day on the slopes. Some of these lodges are even located in beautiful towns where you can do your Christmas shopping.
Stay Home
Instead of traveling to meet your distant relatives, tell everyone you will be staying home with your immediate family.
This gives you a great chance to connect with your kids or spend some quality time with your significant other without the distractions of reconnecting with relatives you haven’t seen in months.
Make a gingerbread house, cook a family dinner, or just go out to the local park for sledding and ice skating.
Enjoy Your Holidays
Ultimately, you just have to enjoy your vacation. This is your time off and there is no reason your time off work should be filled with stress, fighting, or petty arguments. As long as you have a good time and are able to relax on vacation, your “work” is done!
