These days you’re continually tapped into work and the social world. With netbooks and smartphones you have what you need to stay connected, and sometimes you might stay a little too connected. However, there are benefits of this special connection as well.
Where once some people weren’t able to take a vacation because of owning their own business or because of being a workaholic, with technology keeping you tapped in you can get away and still work while you’re there. Yes, you need some vacation time, but sometimes you need to compromise in order to do that.
Planning For Vacation
If you’re booking a flight, make sure that you know what you can have on board with you and what needs to be traveling separately. Know the rules about using phones and computers on flights as well.
You need to make sure that the place you are staying has wifi, which can save on your phone plan and will allow you to get on your laptop or tablet. Of course, you can also look into getting your phone turned into a wifi hotspot.
Making A Packing List
When it comes to a working vacation, you need to make sure that you don’t forget to pack the things that you need in order to work. That means having all of your chargers, having any work files that you’ll need, and making sure to have the info for all of your contacts on hand. Make sure to include these things on your packing list, along with all of your normal vacation needs.
Working On The Road
You can make a living working on the road. Many people are doing that these days. You can drive a car, fly from motel room to motel room, or even invest in an RV to hit the road. Many types of people work on the road and even take their families with them.
If you write for a living, the road can be an excellent place to work. This is not a life only reserved for musicians and writers, though. If you can do your job outside an office or retail store, you can work from the road.
Making Time For Work
When it comes to working while you’re on vacation, the key is to make time for work but also ensure you have time for fun. Make up for every work related call you make with an extra 15 minutes in the pool. But also schedule in some time specific to work if it’s something you need to be doing.
Working on vacation can also help you earn more money for fun, or allow you to spend even more time on vacation. Just don’t let yourself get too absorbed with work that you miss out on the fun things (and relaxation) that vacation offers.
